My name is Kevin L. Powers and I’m the Festival Director for Something Wicked Film Festival (SWFF). We are in our third year now and boy what a year it has been! We’ve been to networking events like Get Connected and the TPN Film Festival (and its Awards Event) and we’ve seen just what has been coming from the minds of Georgia filmmakers and I must say that I’m excited about what I’m seeing!
As the Festival Director of the SWFF my goal is to seek out some of the best shorts, features, fiction and non-fiction films in the animation, fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres and bring them to you, The Audience, for one momentous weekend of non-stop films and fun. Whether you are in the Hollywood system of making films, an independent filmmaker, or a student filmmaker just getting started we want to see what you’ve got and we plan on screening some of the best that we find.
Last year was a great first year as we got submissions from all over the world and many domestic, as well. We even got the chance to highlight a few great Georgia filmmakers like Ron McLellen (ALL HALLOWS EVIL: LORD OF THE HARVEST), Byron C. Erwin (MR. LOCKJAW), Sam Drog (CLOWNS VS. MONKEYS), Stephen Sherwood (PASSING), and TJ Sanson (ANNALIESE: A LOVE STORY), to name a few. We strive to not only highlight Georgia filmmakers but filmmakers from all over the world and we hope to continue doing so for years to come.
In addition to our many great screenings we also had panel discussions and Q&As with visiting filmmakers and plenty of vendors to keep you busy when not watching films and we plan on doing the same this year.
This year we plan on not just bringing you more and new films making the film festival circuit but newer panel discussions, more Retrospectives and we’re even doing a series of screening we are calling GA Spotlight, which will focus on female filmmakers in Georgia! We have a lot of exciting new things planned for this year’s event!
I would just like to add that, here, at SWFF you will find all manner of genre film as well have eclectic tastes and think that you might also too. We will strive to have diverse types of events and film screenings for all interests and hope that you will join us come August 3-5, 2017 when we take over Lawrenceville, Georgia for a weekend of fun, fantasy, and animated wonder like you’ve never seen before.
